Summary

Lantern slide depicting Lord French, Earl of Ypres, autographing 'The Song of the Ypres League' - 'A Corner in Flanders'. The better known 'Tramping Along' - another image titled 'Song of the Ypres League' - was published in 1926, suggesting a date for this image. However, Lord French died in 1925, so the image must be earlier.

The Ypres League was a British World War I veterans and remembrance society, founded on 28 September 1920 to support veterans of the battles of the Ypres Salient. It produced a quarterly newsletter and a guide book to Ypres, and provided a variety of services to its members, including specially designed membership certificates. It erected a memorial church at Ypres, established international branches were established, and published a newsletter well into the 1930s. Some branches were still active in the 1940s.
