This elocution prize medal in silver from Wesley College was won by G. De Lacy Evans in 1879. It was presented by G. Zupton, who may have been a teacher at Wesley. Wesley College was opened in St Kilda Road in 1866. In 1871 M.H. Irving became Headmaster. In his first report to the school, Irving clearly defined his priorities: sound moral training, fluency and accuracy in English useage, rapidity and 'perfect accuracy' in arithmetic and the study of Latin and Greek.
