Head and shoulders portrait of James Harrison (1816-1893), the inventor of mechanical refrigeration, proprietor and editor of the 'Geelong Advertiser' and later journalist for 'The Age'. The gentleman depicted has a deep set brow and receding hairline with wavy medium length white hair. He is wearing a dark (black?) jacket and waistcoat, which shirt and black cross neck tie.
