In 1887 a chilrden's carnival was held in Fitzroy to celebrate the golden jubilee of Queen Victoria. This medal was produced in honor of that occasion and distributed by the Mayor of Fitzroy, George C. Clauscen. Clauscen was Mayor in 1886-87; he also served as a councillor in Northcoate. He ran a chain of furniture stores in the district. Clauscen Street, Fitzroy, is named in his honour.
