Other Details: The fiftieth anniversary of the ascension of Queen Victoria in 1887 was celebrated with enthusiasm throughout the Empire. This medal was one of many issued by local governments to commemorate the occasion. It was issued by the Shire of Coburg and was presented by the Shire President. The Municipality of Coburg, which operated from 1874 to 1994, was bordered on the south by Brunswick and on the west and east by the Moonee Ponds and the Merri Creek valleys. The medal was presented by Shire President Horatio Kelson, whose surname is represented in monogrammatic style on the reverse.
