Other Details: Medal issued in 1887 by the Town of Portland to celebrate the 50th jubilee of Queen Victoria's ascention to the throne. Portland is regarded as the birthplace of Victoria. The Henty brothers, entrepreneur farmers and whalers, established the state's first permanent white settlement in Portland in 1834. It initially rivalled Melbourne, but developed slowly as a fishing port.
