Summary

Alternative Name(s): Check, Advertising Check

Globe Brand medal advertising Frankfort lager beer. It claims to be the 'most wholesome' and 'recommended by all medical faculties'. Before the development of large numbers of medicines in the 20th century, alcohol was one of the only oral treatments offered to patients suffering a broad range of ailments. Frankfort is the capital of Kentucky, USA, and has long had a local brewing industry.

The medal is identified in collection records as Australian in origin. Other 'Globe Brand' products were advertised in Australian newspapers such as McEwan's India Pale Ale (1882); Preller's Globe Brand French clarets (1885); Atcherly and Dawson's Globe Brand Teas (1892); superphosphates (1904); and Globe Brand Meat Extract (1927). At least some of these products may have been made by companies using similar names.
