Other Details: A silver prize medal awarded to H. Spring at the 1883 Parramatta Juvenile Industrial Exhibition. The exhibition opened on 19 December at Parrramatta Park, Sydney and ran for two weeks. The Exhibition patron was Lord Augustus Loftus, Governor of New South Wales. Intended to encourage public education, the exhibition was opend to several classes of exhibitors based on age: under 13, under 15, under 18, under 21, apprentices of any age and 'improvers' to the age of 23. Non-competing exhibitors of any age coudl also enter, but they were charged for exhibition space. Exhibitors could sell their works. The exhibits were divided into 22 categories, including writing and drawing, leatherwork, metalwork, cookery, natural science collections, carpentry, needlework, stonemasonry, printing and binding, instruments, boat-making and wheelwrights' work. The work was assessed by judging panels and medals awarded in silver and bronze. Certificates of merit were also awarded.

A silver prize medal (30 mm diameter) depicting a young child on one knee reaching with right hand for Victor's wreath which hangs in the sky above, and holding open book with left hand. In front of the child is a house and tools of industry, in the sky behind, the Southern Cross The reverse offers a descriptive legend withing a floral wreath and is engraved with the winners name, H. Spring

At centre, a young child on one knee facing left, reaching with right hand for Victor's wreath which hangs in the sky above, and holding open book with left hand. In front of the child is a house and tools of industry, in the sky behind, the Southern Cross. In exergue LUX, PRIMA, DETUR/ LABORI (translated by Carlisle - Let the dawn be devoted to toil)
