Other Details: Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, Queen Victoria's second son, was Australia's first royal visitor. Arriving in 1867, he stayed for six months. This medal was the first of four versions issued. It features HMS Galatea, a ship driven by both steam and sail. During his visit to Sydney there was an attempted assassination of the Duke, who received a bullet wound to the back.
