Significance
Napoleon's arrived in Rochefort on July 3rd 1815 and stayed until 8th July when he tried to embark on a small boat for the Isle of Aix. However, the winds proved too strong so Napoleon boarded the Saale , one of the French ships being blockaded by the Royal Navy. On 15 July he surrended to the British on one of the blockading ships, the Bellerophon.
