Other Details: Shepparton & Lower Goulburn Valley Agricultural and Pastoral Society silver prize medal, dated 1881. The details of the winning entry of this medal were incorrectly engraved, originall given as 1st Prize for Pony, it was changed to 2nd Prize for a pair of ponies. The medal winner was J.P. Fitzgerald.

Physical Description

An oval struck silver prize medal set in a cast silver wreath with loop and ring at top (32 mm wide by 52 mm high). It features a shield quartered with sheep, wheat-sheaf, sailing ship and wine barrel below bunches of grapes and has a second shield set at the centre of the first with a kangaroo left, head right. The main shield is set below a rising-sun and within a wreath of rose, shamrock and oak. Below is a ribbon with the motto: BY THE RIGHT USE OF GOD'S GIFTS. The other side details the society and the winning entry

Around on a broad rim, SHEPPARTON & LOWER GOULBURN AGRICULTURAL & PASTORAL SOCIETY at centre, AWARDED TO J.P. Fitzgerald 2nd PRIZE PAIR PONIES 1881 (originally it read 1st prize / PONY BUT THIS HAS BEEN CORRECTED)

Reverse Description
