The photograph was taken by Lilian long after her family had moved from Bairnsdale.

The house was built by Lilian Pitts' parents, Frank and Annie Pitts, around the 1870s. Lilian was born in 1872 and grew up in the house with her 7 younger siblings. The family relocated to Merrigum, near Kyabram, in 1893 when she was a young woman.

Lilian Pitts photographed, processed and printed her photographs from about 1910.
The collection is based on her life in the fruit growing and dairying community of Merrigum, a town west of Shepparton, in the Goulburn Valley.
Lilian Louisa Pitts died in Kyabram in 1947 at the age of 75.
