Description of Content

Group of ten people standing in front of two single-storied weatherboard commercial premises and a house at Pyramid Hill. On the left is a double-fronted shop with larged glazed windows and a front verandah. Signwriting painted on the facade parapet reads: 'SMITH & HOLLAND GENERAL STORE' and below on the front of the verandah 'IRONMONGERY, GLASSWARE, CROCKERY, PAINTS, DRESSMAKING, MILLINERY, HOSIERY, CLOTHING, BOOTS AND SHOES, FLOUR, FEED, CHAFF, &c. &c.'. There is a set of platform scales and a wooden cask under the verandah, and four men standing in front - probably the proprietors and/or staff. In the middle is a small single-fronted weatherboard building with a single window and door, which has painted signwriting on the facade parapet reading: 'NATIONAL BANK OF AUSTRALASIA'. Two men and a dog are standing out the front - probably the branch manager and his assistant. Ar right is a double-fronted Victorian style weatherboard house with verandah and two brick chimneys, and a wooden picket fence surrounding the front yard. The verandah is embellished with ornamental wooden fretwork. In front of the house is an oil or gas street lamp on a cast-iron standard. Leaning on the lamp post is a teenage girl holding the hand of a small child, and to the right of them two women are standing, wearing hats and long black dresses.
