Summary

Part of the Biggest Family Album collection of images comprising approximately 10,000 negatives documenting life in rural and regional Victoria dating from the 1890s to the 1940s.

This photograph is from a set of 81 images mainly depicting life in and around Mildura in the 1920s and 1930s. They were donated by Donnie Byrne, whose ancestors migrated from Germany and settled in Mildura in 1880s. Many of the photographs were taken by August Müller, Donnie's great-grandfather.

This image is is of August Müller's general store. The donor has also supplied the following information: 'August Müller was my great-grandfather. He arrived in Mildura by riverboat in the late 1880s. This was the first brick shop built in Mildura. He took a collection of photographs of early Mildura, sent them back to Germany to be printed and made into postcards which he then sold from his shop'.

Description of Content

August Müller's General Store, established 1888. A woman, a man and a boy are standing in front of the brick building which has three large show windows displaying homegoods including furniture and ironmongery products.
