Description of Content
The MV Neptuna owned by Burns Philp which was sunk during the first air raid on Darwin. It had been unloading munitions at the wharf when Japanese carrier aircraft attacked the harbour on 19 February 1942. A total of 45 men were killed in the explosion that destroyed the vessel. The wreck was later partly removed by a Japanese scrap metal salvage firm.
