Summary

Copper One Penny Token, minted by Allan & Moore, London. Issued by Auckland Licensed Victuallers Association, Auckland, 1871. The Auckland Licensed Victuallers Association issued penny tokens celebrating the formation of their organisation in 1871, and provided coins for giving change to hotel patrons in the city. The New Zealand Licensed Victuallers Association, of which the Auckland association was a part, joined the Hospitality Association of New Zealand in the late twentieth century.

Physical Description

A round bronze token (32 mm diameter) featuring the name and foundation date of the association that issued it: Auckland Licensed Victuallers Association, established in New Zealand 4th April 1871. The ereverse features a profile head of Queen Victoria, laureate right and gives her date of birth, May 24 1819.

At centre within a circle of beads in five lines, ESTABLISHED IN / NEW / ZEALAND / APRIL 4 / 1871 around, AUCKLAND LICENSED VICTUALLERS ASSOCIATION.

Reverse Description
