Summary

Self-recording rain recorders and wind gauges (anemometer), Sydney Observatory, circa 1900.

Rainfall was collected on the roof of the timeball tower directly above the recording instruments, and directed into the bucket on the right. The weights drive a chart recording mechanism.

Photograph in a photograph album used at Melbourne Observatory, late 19th century.
