Other Details: This small silver medal was prepared for the annual company picnic of the Union Foundry in 1883. It was awarded for the 'Maiden Race' and was won by T. Phillips. The Union Foundry was started in Ballarat in 1863 to manufacture retorts for the local gas company, machinery for the Ballarat Meat Preserving Company and heavy castings for the Queensland sugar industry.
