Physical Description

An aluminium-bronze coin (25.1 mm diameter) featuring on the obverse a crowned head of Elizabeth II facing right, around, ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA 1995. The reverse features swagman advancing to left with the legend 1 DOLLAR Waltzing Matilda 1895 1995 A.B . "BANJO" PATERSON. The coin is stored within a printed card which provides the words of Waltzing Matilda and a brief history.

Significance

Centenary of first performance of Waltzing Matilda 6 April 1895. This coin was struck on a machine set up at the mint for visitors to strike their own coin and has the mint mark C to diffferentiate it from the regular working strikes (an to make it more attractive to collectors and visitors as the machine cost $2 to operate)
