Other Details: Roland Bert Jinks was born on 1 Nov 1911 in Wednesbury, England. He was the foster son of Florence Elizabeth Chadwick, of Fairfield, Victoria, Australia. On 4 Nov 1939 he went to Sale and enlisted in the Australian Army. His service number was VX5704. Private Jinks died on 23 Dec 1941 at the AIF 1 Australian General Hospital. He was buried at the El Alamein War Cemetery in Egypt. His medals were donated to Museum Victoria in 1980. They comprise a War Service Star, Africa Star, Australian Service medal, Defence medal and War Service medal (NU 18701-18705).

A cupro-nickel medal with mount and ribbon. The obverse features a bare head of King George VI facing left; around, GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F: D: IND: IMP: (Translation - George VI by the Grace of God King of all the British, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India); the artist's initials H.P. (T.H. Paget) in the field below the neck. The reverse depicts a Royal Crown above a small oak tree growing on land surrounded by water, with two lions as supporters; around, 1939 1945; in exergue, THE DEFENCE MEDAL; the artist's monogram HWP (H. Wilson Parker) among the roots of the tree. The edge is impressed: VX5704 R.B. JINKS
