Summary
A german male athlete in uniform standing at the entrance to the Olympic Games Village during the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. Rows of National Flags are flying in the background, while a row of red phone boxes stands nearby. This was the first games where the East and West German teams competed as one under the title of the Unified Team of Germany. They also competed this way at the 1960 (Rome) and 1964 (Tokyo) Olympic Games.
One of a set of 147 35mm Kodachrome slides donated to the Museum in 1987. The images are all taken during the Olympic Games held in Melbourne in November and December, 1956.
