A Lima mint 1 Real coin counterstamped GR over the Royal shield.
Reverse Description
The globes on the reverse of the original coin damaged by the obverse counterstamp; below the date and mint mark of the host coin, 1757 and the Lima mint monogram.

Significance
Countermarking of gold and silver coins was authorised by a local Act dated 18 November 1758. Under that Act 320,000 1 real coins were to be stamped with the letters GR and to pass as 10 pence in Jamaica. The host coin was produced at the Lima mint in 1757.
