Significance
Countermarking of gold and silver coins was authorised by a local Act dated 18 November 1758. Under that Act 320,000 1/2 real coins were to be stamped with the letters GR and to pass as 5 pence in Jamaica. The host coin was produced at the Lima mint in 1758.
