Summary
A group of spectators sitting in the stands at the Olympic Swimming and Diving Stadium during the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. The pool is visible in the foreground, but is empty of competitors.
The building is one of the few specially constructed buildings from the Olympics still in existence, and is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. The complex was redeveloped in the 1980s to become the Melbourne Sports and Entertainment Centre.
One of a set of 147 35mm Kodachrome slides donated to the Museum in 1987. The images are all taken during the Olympic Games held in Melbourne in November and December, 1956.
