Other Details: Medal issued by the German Club (Deutsche Turnverein Melbourne), Melbourne, in 1891. It is inscribed 'the gymnist / B. Kritz / to the memory / 26 January 1891'. The German Club was founded in 1860. Based on the Turnverein society model originated in Prussia by Friedrich Ludwig Jahn, the Club emphasized gymnastic exercises, and also served important social and patriotic functions. The Club today is dedicated to the preservation of German culture through song, dance and the development of German language skills.
