Victorian Railways NA-class narrow gauge (2-ft 6-in) steam locomotive engine hauling a passenger excursion train in a semi-urural setting near Upper Ferntree Gully on the Ferntree Gully to Gembrook Railway. The locomotive is crossing a short timber tressle birdge in the foreground, while in the background the rear passenger carriages and guard's van are passing through a level crossing. The front three carriages are of the open sided excursion type and the rear three carriages are of the earlier clestory roof type with multiple side doors. There is a woman standing one of the running boards while a man leans out of the window just behind her. Near the rear of the train two women are standing beside the track watching the train or waiting for it to pass.
