Summary

Photograph in an album that belonged to an Australian serviceman in the 5th Australian Light House during World War I. The album contains 103 small black and white photographs, mainly of Gallipoli in 1915 and some of France and Belgium. They are believed to have been taken by Trooper George Simpson Millar, service no. 160, 'A' Troop, 'C' Squadron, 5th Australian Light Horse Regiment, 2nd Australian Light Horse Brigade, A.I.F. He served in Gallipoli and France (for some time as an officer in the Imperial Army), returning to Australia in 1919.

Albert Laver was 26 years when he joined up in Emerald, Queensland on 20 October 1914. He served in the 5th Light Horse Regiment during the Gallipoli Campaign. He was promoted to Captain. After the war was over he was granted leave and then discharged from the army to go to America for agricultural purposes.

Archibald Currie was 26 years and 8 months old when he joined up in Longreach, Queensland on 2 November 1914. He served in the 5th Light Horse Regiment during the Gallipoli Campaign. He rose the ranks and was made lieutenant in October 1917. He was wounded in September 1918 during the Palestine Campaign and died of wounds on 25 September 1918.

The photograph was taken at Gallipoli during George Simpson Millars time on the peninsula (May-August 1915).
