Summary
The Diamond: 24th Battalion Journal, No. 2, 1 October 1918.
Eight issues plus a 'preliminary publication' of the Red and White Diamond, a journal of the 24th Battalion, were published. It was printed during and shortly after World War I on a 'regimental field press', and was intended to 'be a newspaper with a humerous element decidedly prominent', and 'not to be any form of an official war budget... We would rather make you laugh than drive you to hard thinking, though we may get serious at times. It is not to be a political organ, or a church paper, but we will find room for all normal tastes and sentiments.' (ST 036423.2)
Physical Description
Paper-bound journal, two staples in spine.

On front page: THE/ DIAMOND/ No. 2. OCTOBER 1, 1918. PRICE, 25 centimes./ Gambling in the Army./ (The first of a series of articles by the editon/ on army morals./ At the mention of the subject of gambling I/ fancy I see puritanical folk prick theyr ears./ But I content that only men who are on active/ service are conpetent to discuss this question/ from the soldier's point of view. Men who/ stay at home and know nothing of the monotony/ of active service life are hardly justified in/ criticising those who go out to tread the army's/ thorny path.
