Summary
Hand made marionette depicting a deep sea diver in full costume. It was manufactured and operated in Melbourne by Alex and Murray Smith, who performed as part of Le Forgeron Marionettes from 1930 until 1956.
Physical Description
Marionette depicting a deep sea diver, wearing a brown jumpsuit with a black belt and silver boots. A piece of wood, painted silver with black detailing, has been attached to his chest and his back. A piece of rope has been tied around his waist and runs up to the mechanism. His wooden hands are unpainted and he carries a wooden axe. His head is enclosed by an old-fashioned diving mask which has been painted copper, silver and black. The diver's mechanism consists of three pieces of wood.
