Hand made marionette depicting an old woman. It was manufactured and operated in Melbourne by Alex and Murray Smith, who performed as part of Le Forgeron Marionettes from 1930 until 1956.
Physical Description
Marionette depicting an old woman, wearing a mid-calf length dress in a patterned fabric in green, yellow, brown, blue and cream. She has a red fabric trim along the hem of her skirt and around her elbow length sleeves. She has a lace collar and cream apron with a lace effect. Around her waist she wears a black velvet corset. Her black boots have been painted on as have her green stockings. Her face is cracked and chipped. Her green plastic eyes have been set into her face. Her grey hair is disintegrating. She wears a brown scarf with an orange, green, blue, yellow and cream floral design on her head. The old woman has a three piece mechanism. There are operating strings attached to numerous parts of he, including her head, limbs and shoulders. The feet have been weighted
