Summary

Hand made marionette depicting an brown and white octopus. It was manufactured and operated in Melbourne by Alex and Murray Smith, who performed as part of Le Forgeron Marionettes from 1930 until 1956.

Physical Description

Marionette depicting an octopus, which is made of two pieces of rubber and two pieces of wood. One piece of rubber has been cut into the shape of the back of the octopus' head and tentacles. The second, circular, piece of rubber has been stuck in a cylindrical shape as his face and sown onto the back piece. The two pieces of wood form the Octopus's eyes. The rubber has been painted brown and white, whereas his eyes have been painted green, blue, black and white, with red glitter. The Octopus is attached to a one piece mechanism.
