Hand made marionette depicting Santa Claus. It was manufactured and operated in Melbourne by Alex and Murray Smith, who performed as part of Le Forgeron Marionettes from 1930 until 1956.

Physical Description

Marionette depicting Santa Claus, who is wearing the standard santa outfit of red jacket, pants and hat, trimmed with furry white fabric. He also wears the black belt and boots. The boots have a piece of leather wrapped around the top where the fabric stops. The boots have more detail than usual, with creases in the 'leather' being carved into the wood. Santa's outfit is in excellent condition. His face is in good condition. His abnormally low mouth and exposed teeth give Santa a strangely menacing look. His white beard and hair remain intact. He has a bell on the end of his hat. This marionette has a three piece mechanism. There are operating strings attached to numerous parts of him, including his head, limbs and shoulders.
