Summary

Hand made marionette depicting a duck wearing a sailor suit costume. It was manufactured and operated in Melbourne by Alex and Murray Smith, who performed as part of Le Forgeron Marionettes from 1930 until 1956.

Physical Description

Marionette depicting a duck, which is wearing a sailor suit, consisting of a jacket made in blue fabric, with white trim around cuffs and collar. It has three white buttons down its front. The goose also has a blue sailor's hat with a blue ribbon band, it is shaped with cardboard. Its red felt feet are padded and wired. It has a red, felt beak, which has some holes in it, perhaps from being previously sewn. The eyes are plastic, red with black pupil. Storage has squashed the goose out of shape. The body made of yellow flannelette-type fabric, but has become a little discoloured. It has a mechanism consisting of three pieces of wood.
