Summary

Hand made marionette depicting a penguin. It was manufactured and operated in Melbourne by Alex and Murray Smith, who performed as part of Le Forgeron Marionettes from 1930 until 1956.

Physical Description

Marionette depicting a penguin, which is made from a soft fabric in black and orange. He has orange feet which have been wired into shape and stuffed with straw. His wings have also been wired and stuffed with straw, whereas his body is totally padded. His feet and wings are attached by a piece of string so they move together. The penguin has an orange beak and white and black plastic eyes. Although his white front is discoloured, the penguin is in good condition overall. There is a small hole near his right foot which has been stitched up. This marionette has a three piece mechanism.
