Counterfoil for a £5 pound postal order payable to Australia House in London, receipt number 594757, issued 17 June 1961. It was used by John Gordon-Kirkby as part of his preparations to migrate to Australia in 1961.
John was born in Gibraltar on 26 August 1936, his parents having crossed over from the Spanish mainland so that he would be born a British subject. They subsequently lived in Morocco. In 1961 John migrated to Australia as part of the assisted Bristish migration scheme, working in Papua New Guinea and remote central Australia for many years. He became an Australian citizen in 1987.
