Other Details: A gold-plated medal issued by the Shire of Bannockburn to commemorate the sesquicentenary of Victoria in 1984-5. It features an ornate shield with lion rampant left, and the sesquicentenary logo. It also records the date 1864, when Bannockburn became a shire. The Shire of Bannockburn was located 93 km south-west of Melbourne. The town of Bannockburn developed in the 1850s when gold was being transported by coach from the fields in Ballarat to the port at Geelong. In 1994 it became part of the new Golden Plains Shire Council.
