Commander Phone from Console Two (Melbourne Maritime Radio), distributed by Telstra.
This phone was collected from the Melbourne Coastal Radio Station after it was closed in July 2002. In addition to communications equipment and documentation, items in general office use were collected in order to represent as far as possible the working environment at the time of closure.
Physical Description
Commander AN series phone with off-white coloured plastic body and a silver coloured push button key pad. The handset is located on the left hand side of the phone and the key pad is situated to the right. Above the key pad is a series of additional push buttons (silver coloured with small, red plastic, covered light) that can be pressed to activate line 1, line 2, speaker etc. At the very top right hand side of the phone, two pieces of paper have been taped to the plastic body. These notes have names and numbers written upon them. The phone cord runs from the back of the object.
