Summary
Brochure issued by the Cunard Lines, circa 1950s. It contains information and advertising for the ship SS Caronia. It is part of a collection of 175 items of post-war ship memorabilia collected by John McKay. John began collecting shipping brochures as a boy through an interest in travel and later used some of the material in his professional capacity as a Geography and Social Studies teacher. He finally made a voyage himself in 1957-1958, to England to attend a scouting jamboree, although he ended up staying for 18 months. He remembers lots of Australians going over at that time, and references to Earls Court as 'Kangaroo Alley'.
Physical Description
Single sheet, folded (to create 8 faces) colour brochure, printed on both sides. The front cover comprises an artists illustration of the bow of the 'Caronia', set against a cloud filled sky. In the top corner is the 'Caronia' name set in a decorative text box and along the basal edge of the cover is a second text box containing the word 'Cunard Line'. The information inside the brochure includes details of room types, on-board facilities available on the ship and a full deck plan of the ship (covering the entire four interior faces). The information provided is a combination of text and colour graphic illustrations.
