Significance
The Melbourne International Centenary Exhibition was staged at the Royal Exhibition Building between September 23 and October 5 1980. It was held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Exhibition Building and Melbourne's first International Exhibition in 1880, for which the Exhibition Building was constructed. 32 countries exhibited at the 1980 Centenary Exhibition which was opened by Princess Alexandra. She conferred the title 'Royal' on the Building. This medal commemorates this occasion, and is also significant for being struck by Stokes and Martin, the same company that prepared the original award medallions 100 years earlier.
