General Description
Black moth with a white bar on the forewing and a white spot on the hind wing. The body is black with yellow at each segment. Males have feathery (bipectinate) antennae whilst the females have threadlike. It is medium sized with a wingspan of about 30 mm. Caterpillar is orange and black
Biology
The Magpie Moth feeds on nectar whilst the caterpillars feed on members of the plant genus Senecio, hence it is sometimes called the Senecio Moth.
Distribution
Southern Australia including Victoria.
