General Description
Above: wings similar, dark-brown to black edge, dark brown and yellow patches with an eyespot. Below: brown, white and yellow patches with eyespots on each wing. Wingspan up to 3 cm.
Biology
Silver Xenica butterflies are present mainly in autumn, when each female hovers above the grass, closely followed by a number of males. Their caterpillars feed on soft grasses (Poa).
Distribution
South-eastern mainland Australia and Tasmania.
Habitat
Mountain and coastal areas.
