General Description
Above: black with brownish orange markings and each wing with two or three indistinct white-centred eyespots. Below: markings similar to above but paler and often reddish. Wingspan up to 4 cm.
Biology
Forest Brown butterflies are fast-flying and often ascend into trees if disturbed. They fly during spring. Their caterpillars have a short, blunt pair of horns on their head and feed on grasses.
Distribution
South-eastern mainland Australia.
Habitat
Forested mountains and their surrounding hills.
