General Description
Body and head orange-brown. Species of Pheidole are dimorphic, which means the workers of the ant colonies contain two castes: the "minor" workers that have a small or "normal" head, and the "major" workers that have an enormous head and mouthparts (mandibles) in comparison to their usually fairly modest body size. Body length up to 5 mm.
Biology
Big Headed Ants are primarily seed harvesters. The normal-headed workers gather the seeds while the large-headed ants use their enormous mandibles to crush the seeds.
