General Description

A small brown and white moth that normally rests with its head and tail raised. Wings are white with two transvers brownish patches at about 1/3 and 2/3 along the wings; a bright brown patch on the wingtip. Males and females are similar. Wingspan: 20-25mm. Head and body light brown; Forewings white with two transvers brownish patches at about 1/3 and 2/3 along the wings; a bright brown patch on the wingtip. Hindwings are white with dark patches, less developed but similarly placed on the wings.

Biology

Adults have been recorded in all seasons except winter. There are several generations in a year. Larvae bore into the base of fruit near the stem. They feed on native members of the Solanaceae family such as Kangaroo Apple but are also known as a pest of tomatoes, capsicum and eggfruit.
