General Description
A medium-sized penguin with a black back and head and white belly. Feathers covering halfway down the bill. Orange-pink legs and a prominent white eye ring. Weight up to 6 kg, head-body length up to 71 cm.
Biology
Colonial breeders forming large aggregations but spaced far enough apart to avoid conflict among neighbouring nests. Spend the non-breeding period on pack-ice or at sea. Occasional vagrant to Australia.
