General Description
Medium thornbill, green-olive above, with white streaking over red-brown head. Breast off-white to yellowish cream, with bold streaking. Prominent streaks around eye. Length 10 cm; wingspan 14 cm. Similar size and shape to the Brown Thornbill, but shorter bill and tail, and streaked white over head and rear of neck, unlike any other thornbills.
Biology
Forages in outer foliage of eucalypts, moving actively in small parties, maintaining constant communication with quiet, high-pitched, insect-like calls.
Distribution
South-eastern mainland Australia.
Habitat
Forests and woodlands, mainly dominated by eucalypts, and usually with a well-developed shrub layer or understorey.
