General Description
Body brown, feathers with lighter brown edges. Males with a blue-grey head and a white curved line on the face in front of the eye. Bill black and flat (spatulate). Body up to 52 cm long.
Biology
Australasian Shovelers feed on molluscs, crustaceans and insects by filtering them through tiny ridges (lamellae) inside their bills.
Distribution
South-western and eastern mainland Australia and Tasmania.
Habitat
Fresh and salt water wetlands and lakes with heavy vegetation.
