General Description
Male body red-brown, head and neck black, bill blue when breeding. Female body grey-brown with short faint stripes, bill dark grey. Body up to 44 cm long.
Biology
Blue-billed Ducks are nomadic, moving to different areas in different seasons. They hold their stiff tails flat on the water when swimming or floating on the surface.
Distribution
South-western and south-eastern mainland Australia and Tasmania.
Habitat
Deep, permanent water or open lakes.
