General Description
Upper body black, underparts white. Bill pale yellow-brown. Eye ring blue. Black feathers above the legs. Body up to 75 cm long.
Biology
Pied Cormorants nest in colonies. They dive under water to catch fish near the sea bottom and sometimes also eat crustaceans and molluscs.
Distribution
New Zealand. Throughout Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, eastern South Australia and coastal Northern Territory, Western Austrlalia and South Australia.
Habitat
Open freshwater wetlands, swamps and coastal marine bays.
