General Description
Body very slender, head rounded, dorsal fin low, long-based, pelvic fins small, caudal fin pointed. Pinkish-brown to yellowish-brown with a large black blotch at the base of the tail, and a bright blue iris. Maximum total length 15 cm.
Biology
Large schools of Hulafish feed on zooplankton in the water column around reefs, near caves, overhangs and beneath piers. The name 'hulafish' is from the undulating swimming movements. The male parent guards the eggs.
Distribution
South-eastern Australia.
Habitat
Rocky reefs, near caves and large overhangs, to depth of 35 m.
